Arrest Made After Triple Homicide in South San Jose

San José police have arrested a suspect in connection with a triple homicide that left three people dead early Tuesday morning in a South San Jose neighborhood. The San José Police Department identified the suspect as 27-year-old Joseph Vicencio, who was taken into custody on September 17, 2025.

The shooting was reported just before 12:30 a.m. on the 200 block of Chynoweth Avenue after multiple 911 calls of gunfire and a woman screaming for help. Officers arrived to find three victims, each suffering at least one gunshot wound; one woman was declared dead at the scene and the other two victims later died at area hospitals. The incident was investigated by the SJPD Homicide Unit.

Authorities have identified two of the victims: Max Ryan, 26, who worked for the City of San José Housing Department, and Tarrah Lynn Taylor, 26, who the county medical examiner said died of multiple gunshot wounds. Local officials and news outlets reported these identifications on Wednesday as investigators continued to piece together motive and circumstances.

Police and city leaders emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public and thanked investigators for quickly locating and arresting the suspect. The department is asking anyone with information or video (doorbell or security cameras) to contact the SJPD Homicide Unit or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.

The San José mayor and city officials expressed condolences to the families and said counselors were made available for city staff (one victim was a city housing employee). The department noted that these deaths bring San Jose’s homicide total for the year to 19/20/21 (three homicides counted in this incident). The investigation remains active as detectives continue to follow leads.
