The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has officially approved VIZZ™ (aceclidine ophthalmic solution 1.44%), a once-daily prescription eye drop developed by LENZ Therapeutics, to treat presbyopia — the common age-related loss of near vision that affects most adults over 40.

VIZZ is the first and only aceclidine-based eye drop approved in the United States for this purpose. The drops work by gently narrowing the pupil to create a “pinhole effect,” allowing users to focus better on nearby objects without significantly affecting distance vision.

In clinical trials, participants reported clearer near vision within 30 minutes of application, and the effects lasted up to 10 hours per dose. Reported side effects were generally mild and temporary, including eye irritation (20%), dim or dark vision (16%), and headaches (13%).

For millions of Americans who depend on reading glasses or bifocals, this new treatment offers a convenient alternative. However, users are advised to:

• Remove contact lenses before applying and wait at least 10 minutes before reinserting.
• Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until vision is fully clear.
• Consult an eye specialist if they have existing retinal issues, as rare cases of retinal tear or detachment have been reported with similar medications.

VIZZ is expected to become available in the U.S. market by late 2025, with sample distribution beginning as early as October 2025.

Cơ quan Quản lý Thực phẩm và Dược phẩm Hoa Kỳ (FDA) vừa chính thức phê duyệt thuốc nhỏ mắt VIZZ™ (dung dịch nhãn khoa aceclidine 1,44%) do công ty LENZ Therapeutics phát triển, dùng để điều trị Presbyopia — tình trạng giảm thị lực nhìn gần do tuổi tác, thường xuất hiện ở người từ 40 tuổi trở lên.

VIZZ là loại thuốc nhỏ mắt đầu tiên và duy nhất ở Hoa Kỳ sử dụng hoạt chất aceclidine để cải thiện khả năng nhìn gần. Thuốc hoạt động bằng cách thu nhỏ đồng tử, tạo “hiệu ứng lỗ kim,” giúp người dùng nhìn rõ vật ở gần mà không ảnh hưởng nhiều đến tầm nhìn xa.
