Foothill College has been named the No. 1 community college in both the nation and California in Niche’s 2026 rankings—its second time earning the top national spot since 2023.

President Kristina Whalen credited Foothill’s emphasis on hands-on, workforce-focused learning—from project-based classes and mentorships to internships and research—for the college’s results and reputation.

Foothill offers nine allied health programs (including dental hygiene, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, veterinary technology and paramedic services) that place students with local clinicians in hospital and emergency settings. The college also runs apprenticeships in traditional trades and partners with Silicon Valley employers, with opportunities extending to humanities and business majors.

To expand access and transfer success, Foothill operates two middle colleges (with Mountain View–Los Altos and Palo Alto districts), notes that about half of students attend free, and maintains UC transfer guarantees (plus preferred pathways with UCLA and UC Berkeley). The college has approved purchasing off-campus apartments for student housing and supports student life with 70+ clubs.

What it means: The top ranking underscores Foothill’s strategy of pairing affordability with high-touch learning and strong industry ties—an approach that can shorten students’ paths to careers or four-year universities.

Foothill College vừa được xếp hạng số 1 ở toàn quốc và tại California trong bảng xếp hạng 2026 của Niche—lần thứ hai kể từ 2023 đạt vị trí số 1 toàn quốc.

Hiệu trưởng Kristina Whalen cho biết thành công đến từ trọng tâm của Foothill vào học tập trải nghiệm gắn với nghề nghiệp—từ lớp học theo dự án, cố vấn học thuật đến thực tập và nghiên cứu.

Trường có 9 chương trình y khoa liên kết (vệ sinh răng, kỹ thuật chẩn đoán hình ảnh, hô hấp, thú y, nhân viên cấp cứu…), cho sinh viên thực hành cùng bác sĩ tại bệnh viện và phòng cấp cứu. Để mở rộng cơ hội tiếp cận và chuyển tiếp, Foothill vận hành hai chương trình “middle college” (với học khu Mountain View–Los Altos và Palo Alto), cho biết khoảng một nửa sinh viên được miễn học phí, và có thỏa thuận chuyển tiếp với hệ thống UC (cùng lộ trình ưu tiên vào UCLA và UC Berkeley). Trường cũng đã thông qua việc mua căn chung cư ngoài khuôn viên làm nhà ở sinh viên và hiện có hơn 70 câu lạc bộ.

Điều này có nghĩa: Ngôi đầu bảng củng cố chiến lược của Foothill: chi phí vừa túi tiền kết hợp học tập sát thực tế và liên kết doanh nghiệp, giúp rút ngắn con đường của sinh viên tới việc làm hoặc chuyển tiếp lên đại học 4 năm.
