On Friday night, San Jose Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop near Capitol Avenue and Berryessa Avenue after observing a vehicle code violation.
When officers approached the vehicle, the driver refused to exit the car and resisted attempts to detain him. Officers were eventually able to take him into custody safely — and soon discovered why he had resisted arrest.
According to police, the man, who was prohibited from possessing firearms, had been wearing a cross-body satchel containing a loaded and unregistered handgun.
A further search of the vehicle revealed additional weapons, knives, and narcotics, confirming that the suspect was involved in more serious criminal activity.
Police praised the Foothill Division officers for their situational awareness and quick response, which prevented a potentially dangerous confrontation and helped remove another illegal firearm from San Jose’s streets.
The San Jose Police Department emphasized that proactive policing continues to play a vital role in keeping communities safe and preventing crime before it escalates.
“Proactive policing saves lives. Outstanding work by Foothill Division,” the department stated in its public update.

Tối thứ Sáu vừa qua, các sĩ quan của Sở Cảnh sát San Jose (SJPD) đã dừng một chiếc xe gần giao lộ Capitol Avenue và Berryessa Avenue do vi phạm luật giao thông.
Khi đến gần, tài xế từ chối rời khỏi xe và chống đối khi cảnh sát cố gắng khống chế. Sau khi được đưa vào trạng thái an toàn, người này nhanh chóng bị bắt giữ — và lý do khiến anh ta chống đối cũng được hé lộ.
Theo báo cáo của cảnh sát, người tài xế bị cấm sở hữu súng nhưng lại mang một túi đeo trước ngực chứa khẩu súng ngắn đã nạp đạn và chưa đăng ký.
Khi khám xét thêm chiếc xe, cảnh sát còn phát hiện nhiều vũ khí khác, dao và chất ma túy, cho thấy người này có thể đang tham gia vào hoạt động phạm pháp nghiêm trọng hơn.
