iPhone Users Can Now Add U.S. Passport Info to Apple Wallet

Apple has officially launched a new Digital ID feature that allows iPhone users in the United States to add their U.S. passport information directly into the Apple Wallet app. The rollout comes just in time for the busy holiday travel season.

The feature is currently in a beta phase and will be accepted at more than 250 TSA airport checkpoints nationwide, allowing travelers to use their digital ID for identity verification during domestic travel.

How it works:

  1. Open the Wallet app, tap the “+” icon, and select Digital ID.
  2. Scan the passport photo page, then hold the iPhone above the passport’s embedded chip for authentication.
  3. Verify identity through a selfie and guided facial/head movements.
  4. At TSA checkpoints, double-click the side button on the iPhone or Apple Watch, choose the Digital ID, and present it to the reader. Travelers approve the information shared using Face ID or Touch ID.

Important reminders:

  • This feature does not replace the physical passport.
  • It cannot be used for international travel or border crossings.
  • Passport data is stored locally on the device and encrypted.
  • Only the device owner can use the Digital ID, thanks to Face ID/Touch ID authentication.

Availability:

More than a dozen states — including California, New York, Ohio, Utah, and Virginia — as well as Puerto Rico, already accept mobile IDs in TSA security lanes.

For U.S. travelers using iPhones, this feature offers a convenient and secure way to verify identity at domestic airport checkpoints, though a physical passport is still required for international travel.

Apple vừa ra mắt tính năng ID Kỹ Thuật Số (Digital ID) mới, cho phép người dùng iPhone tại Mỹ lưu thông tin hộ chiếu ngay trong ứng dụng Apple Wallet. Tính năng này được phát triển đúng vào mùa du lịch cuối năm.

Hiện tính năng đang trong giai đoạn thử nghiệm (beta) và được chấp nhận tại hơn 250 trạm kiểm soát an ninh của TSA trên toàn quốc, giúp hành khách dùng Digital ID để xác minh danh tính khi bay nội địa.

Cách sử dụng:

  1. Mở ứng dụng Wallet, bấm dấu “+”, rồi chọn Digital ID.
  2. Quét trang ảnh của hộ chiếu, sau đó đưa iPhone lên chip tích hợp ở mặt sau hộ chiếu để xác thực.
  3. Xác minh danh tính bằng selfie theo hướng dẫn (quay đầu, nhắm mắt…).
  4. Tại trạm TSA, nhấn hai lần nút bên của iPhone/Apple Watch, chọn Digital ID, rồi đưa thiết bị quét. Người dùng sẽ xác nhận bằng Face ID hoặc Touch ID.

Lưu ý quan trọng:

  • Digital ID không thể thay thế hộ chiếu vật lý.
  • Không sử dụng để đi quốc tế hoặc qua cửa khẩu.
  • Dữ liệu hộ chiếu được mã hóa và lưu trữ trên thiết bị.
  • Chỉ chủ thiết bị mới có thể sử dụng Digital ID.
