Man Arrested in Connection with Smash-and-Grab Heist at San Jose Jewelry Store

San Jose police have arrested 19-year-old Julian Gacutan in connection with a violent smash-and-grab robbery that occurred on September 5 at Kim Hung Jewelry on Aborn Road.

According to investigators, more than ten masked suspects rammed a vehicle into the storefront, then rushed inside, smashing display cases and stealing jewelry before fleeing. The incident shocked the Vietnamese-American business community and prompted a major police investigation.

During the robbery, the 88-year-old shop owner was pushed to the ground and later suffered a stroke. He was hospitalized but has since been discharged.

Gacutan’s arrest marks the eighth suspect taken into custody in connection with the case. Police say more arrests may follow as the investigation continues.

The San Jose Police Department stated that the arrest brings them one step closer to justice, emphasizing that such violent attacks on small businesses will not be tolerated.

Cảnh sát San Jose vừa bắt giữ Julian Gacutan, 19 tuổi, có liên quan đến vụ cướp “smash-and-grab” táo bạo xảy ra ngày 5 tháng 9 tại cửa hàng Kim Hung Jewelry trên đường Aborn.

Theo điều tra, hơn mười người bịt mặt đã đâm xe vào cửa tiệm, rồi xông vào bên trong, đập vỡ các tủ trưng bày để lấy trang sức trước khi bỏ trốn. Vụ việc đã gây chấn động trong cộng đồng doanh nghiệp người Việt và khiến cảnh sát mở cuộc truy bắt quy mô lớn.

Trong lúc vụ cướp xảy ra, chủ tiệm 88 tuổi bị đẩy ngã và sau đó bị đột quỵ. Ông được đưa vào bệnh viện điều trị và hiện đã xuất viện.

Việc bắt giữ Gacutan là nghi phạm thứ tám bị truy bắt trong vụ án này. Cảnh sát cho biết cuộc điều tra vẫn đang tiếp tục và có thể sẽ còn thêm những vụ bắt giữ khác.

Cảnh sát San Jose khẳng định việc bắt giữ này là một bước tiến quan trọng hướng tới công lý, đồng thời nhấn mạnh rằng các hành vi bạo lực nhắm vào tiểu thương sẽ không được dung thứ.
