A major recall has been issued for ready-to-eat pasta meals after being linked to a multi-state Listeria outbreak that has resulted in several deaths and hospitalizations, according to federal health officials.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that 27 people across 18 states have been infected with Listeria monocytogenes, leading to 6 deaths and 25 hospitalizations.

The recall affects more than 245,000 pounds of pre-cooked pasta, distributed nationwide to major retailers and food manufacturers that produced frozen and chilled pasta meals or salads.

Some of the recalled products include:

• Trader Joe’s Cajun Style Blackened Chicken Breast Fettuccine Alfredo
• Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs & Marinara Sauce (sold at Walmart)
• Similar ready-to-eat meals sold under various private-label brands

Health officials warn that Listeria can survive refrigeration and easily spread from contaminated food to surfaces or other products. Consumers are urged to discard or return the affected items, sanitize containers and refrigerators, and monitor for symptoms.

Listeria infection is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Common symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, stiff neck, confusion, and digestive problems.

Consumers who may have purchased these products should stop eating them immediately and contact their local health department or the CDC for further guidance.
