A Spare the Air Alert has been issued for New Year’s Day across the San Francisco Bay Area due to unhealthy air quality conditions.
Air quality officials warn that weather patterns are expected to trap pollution close to the ground, leading to elevated levels of fine particulate matter. Smoke from fireworks and residential wood burning is expected to further worsen air conditions.
During a Spare the Air Alert, residents are strongly urged to avoid burning wood, limit outdoor activities, and reduce driving when possible. Officials also advise people with respiratory conditions, seniors, and young children to remain indoors and take extra precautions.
Authorities emphasize that fireworks smoke can linger for hours, significantly impacting air quality even after celebrations have ended.

Giới chức môi trường đã ban hành cảnh báo “Spare the Air” cho Ngày Tết Dương Lịch trên toàn Vùng Vịnh San Francisco, do chất lượng không khí ở mức không lành mạnh.
Theo cơ quan chức năng, điều kiện thời tiết sẽ khiến ô nhiễm không khí bị giữ lại gần mặt đất, làm gia tăng nồng độ bụi mịn. Khói từ pháo hoa và việc đốt củi trong khu dân cư được dự báo sẽ khiến tình trạng ô nhiễm trở nên nghiêm trọng hơn.
Trong thời gian có cảnh báo, người dân được khuyến cáo không đốt củi, hạn chế các hoạt động ngoài trời và giảm lái xe khi có thể. Người cao tuổi, trẻ em và những người mắc bệnh hô hấp nên ở trong nhà và áp dụng các biện pháp bảo vệ sức khỏe.
