Uber has announced plans to launch a fleet of robotaxis in the San Francisco Bay Area, partnering with local tech companies Lucid and Nuro to bring the project to life.
Under this collaboration, Lucid’s luxury electric vehicle design will be integrated with Nuro’s autonomous driving technology, all powered by Uber’s global ride-hailing platform. Lucid has already delivered test vehicles to Nuro, and the companies expect around 100 test cars to begin operating on Bay Area roads in the coming months.
San Francisco will serve as the first market for Uber’s robotaxi program, which is expected to launch publicly in 2026. The company says it aims to deploy 20,000 or more self-driving taxis in multiple cities within the next six years.
“The Bay Area has long been the birthplace of transformative technology, and it’s only fitting that Uber’s next-generation robotaxi program with Lucid and Nuro will begin here — launching to the public next year,” said Uber Chief Product Officer Sachin Kansal.
To accelerate the rollout, Uber is also partnering with Nvidia and Stellantis, with plans to manufacture at least 5,000 autonomous vehicles using Nvidia software under the Stellantis brand by 2028.
This initiative highlights Uber’s long-term goal to transition from human-driven ride-hailing to large-scale autonomous mobility, blending innovation from Bay Area companies with its global transportation network.

Hãng Uber vừa công bố kế hoạch triển khai đội xe taxi tự lái (robotaxi) tại Vùng Vịnh San Francisco, hợp tác cùng hai công ty công nghệ địa phương là Lucid và Nuro để thực hiện dự án này.
Theo thỏa thuận, mẫu xe điện sang trọng của Lucid sẽ được kết hợp với công nghệ lái tự động của Nuro, hoạt động trên nền tảng gọi xe toàn cầu của Uber. Lucid đã bàn giao xe thử nghiệm cho Nuro, và hai công ty dự kiến sẽ đưa khoảng 100 xe thử nghiệm ra đường trong vài tháng tới.
