VALLEJO, Calif. — A staff member at Vallejo High School has been arrested after police say he withheld a student’s cellphone and allegedly demanded sexual acts in exchange for returning it.

According to the Vallejo Police Department, officers responded Tuesday afternoon to a report at a school near Vallejo High School on Nebraska Street. School officials had already identified the suspect as Reuben Carter Freeman, 36, a staff member at the school.

Investigators allege that Freeman forcefully took the student’s phone and told her he would not return it unless she complied with his sexual demands. Police say he also prevented the student from leaving a classroom and held her against her will while still in possession of the phone.

Authorities said Freeman later returned the phone and allowed the student to leave. After police were notified, Freeman fled the campus, prompting a search. He was located nearby and taken into custody without incident.

Freeman was booked into the Solano County Jail on suspicion of false imprisonment, robbery, and soliciting lewd acts. Bail was set at $70,000. The case remains under investigation, and police are urging anyone with information to contact the Vallejo Police Department.

Theo Sở Cảnh Sát Vallejo, cảnh sát đã đến một trường học gần Trường Trung Học Vallejo trên đường Nebraska vào chiều thứ Ba sau khi nhận được tin báo. Nghi phạm được xác định là Reuben Carter Freeman, 36 tuổi, một nhân viên của trường.

Cảnh sát cho biết Freeman đã lấy điện thoại của học sinh bằng vũ lực và nói sẽ không trả lại nếu học sinh không làm theo yêu cầu tình dục của ông ta. Người này còn bị cáo buộc ngăn không cho học sinh rời khỏi lớp học và giữ em lại trái ý muốn trong lúc vẫn giữ điện thoại.

Sau đó, Freeman được cho là đã trả lại điện thoại và cho học sinh rời đi. Khi cảnh sát được báo tin, ông ta bỏ trốn khỏi khuôn viên trường nhưng nhanh chóng bị bắt giữ gần đó.
