Waymo has officially secured approval to operate its autonomous robotaxi service at San José Mineta International Airport (SJC)—making it the first commercial airport in California to welcome Waymo, with only Phoenix Sky Harbor being the second in the world to do so.
The rollout will launch in phases. It begins with internal testing by Waymo employees in Terminals A and B, followed by a planned public launch later this year at the airport’s Ground Transportation Centers.
San José leadership welcomes this move, particularly with major events such as the 2026 World Cup and Super Bowl hosted at Levi’s Stadium. Mayor Matt Mahan highlighted Waymo’s arrival as a timely integration of innovation and mobility for travelers.
Waymo currently operates over 2,000 autonomous vehicles across several U.S. cities, including San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. Recently, it also gained approval to begin testing in New York.
