The Whole Foods Market on Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino is set to reopen on September 29 after being closed for months due to a serious vermin infestation discovered earlier this year.
Back in April, the Santa Clara County Department of Environmental Health ordered the shutdown after inspectors found rodents and cockroaches in the store’s deli and bakery sections. Customers had also reported droppings and sightings of pests.
Since then, Whole Foods has undergone deep cleaning, equipment replacement, and structural changes to improve sanitation. County health officials confirmed in multiple follow-up inspections that the store is now free of infestations.
Whole Foods stated that the Cupertino location has added new preventive measures and will continue to work closely with county health inspectors to maintain food safety standards.
For local residents, the reopening restores a popular grocery option in Silicon Valley. At the same time, the incident has raised questions about oversight and accountability for health standards in large food chains.
