A San Jose police officer was injured during a confrontation with an armed suspect following a series of carjackings and robberies across multiple counties.
Authorities say the suspect led police on a chase that eventually ended in downtown San Jose. During the confrontation, the suspect opened fire on officers.
Police returned fire, killing the suspect at the scene. A San Jose police sergeant who was struck by a bullet was transported to a hospital and later reported to be in stable condition.
Officials say the suspect was connected to several violent crimes prior to the shootout.
