SAN JOSÉ, Calif. — Community leaders, elected officials, and business organizations gathered on Wednesday, June 10, to officially launch a citywide FIFA World Cup Watch Party initiative aimed at bringing residents together and supporting local business districts throughout San José.
The kickoff event, hosted by the Directors' Alliance San José (DASJ), took place at The Plant Town Square in the Monterey Corridor and marked the beginning of a collaborative effort that will bring World Cup viewing experiences to neighborhoods across the city.
Among those expected to participate were Santa Clara County Supervisor Betty Duong, San José Mayor Matt Mahan, Councilmembers Michael Mulcahy Tordillos, Peter Ortiz, Bien Doan, and Domingo Candelas, along with representatives from the San José Sports Authority, city staff, business leaders, and community organizations.
Organizers described the event as a celebration of partnership and civic collaboration, highlighting the collective effort required to create engaging community experiences tied to one of the world's most popular sporting events.
The FIFA World Cup is widely regarded as the most-watched sporting event on the planet, attracting billions of viewers worldwide. The Directors' Alliance San José serves 11 neighborhood business districts throughout the city, representing more than 5,000 businesses. The organization works to promote economic vitality while supporting safety, cleanliness, beautification, and capital improvement projects in commercial corridors across San José.
The alliance is co-chaired by Helen Masamori of the Alum Rock/La Avenida Business District and Paul Pham of the Story Road/Little Saigon Business District.
Media representatives were also invited to attend the launch event, which organizers described as a symbolic milestone showcasing how government agencies, business organizations, and community stakeholders can work together to create meaningful experiences for residents and visitors alike.

Sự kiện do Directors' Alliance San José (DASJ) tổ chức sẽ diễn ra từ 10:00 giờ sáng đến 11:00 giờ sáng tại The Plant Town Square, tọa lạc tại 91 Curtner Avenue, San Jose. Chương trình chính thức bắt đầu lúc 10:15 sáng và mở cửa miễn phí cho công chúng.
