On Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 11:25 AM, the Vietnamese American community in San José will gather at City Hall for the annual flag-raising ceremony marking Black April — a solemn day of remembrance for the Fall of Saigon.
Adding to the significance of this year’s ceremony is the special appearance of the historic EMU-309 Huey helicopter — an iconic aircraft that carries with it the echoes of war, sacrifice, and survival.
The EMU-309 is a restored Bell UH-1H “Huey” helicopter from the Vietnam War era, maintained and operated by a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving military aviation history and honoring the service of veterans.
Originally flown in combat during the Vietnam War, the Huey became a defining symbol of the conflict — known for transporting troops, evacuating the wounded, and supporting countless missions under dangerous conditions. The EMU-309 has since been carefully restored to its wartime configuration, serving today as a “living museum” that allows newer generations to connect with history in a deeply personal way.
Beyond its historical value, the aircraft continues to serve a powerful purpose. Through educational events and veteran outreach, EMU-309 helps preserve the legacy of those who served while fostering awareness of the sacrifices made during the war.

Vào lúc 11 giờ 25 phút sáng, thứ Năm ngày 30 tháng 4 năm 2026, cộng đồng người Việt tại San José sẽ cùng nhau tụ họp tại Tòa Thị Chính để tham dự lễ thượng kỳ tưởng niệm Tháng Tư Đen — ngày ghi dấu biến cố đau thương của dân tộc.
Điểm đặc biệt trong buổi lễ năm nay là sự xuất hiện của chiếc trực thăng lịch sử EMU-309 — một biểu tượng gắn liền với chiến tranh, hy sinh và ký ức không thể phai mờ.
EMU-309 là một chiếc trực thăng Bell UH-1H “Huey” từ thời chiến tranh Việt Nam, hiện được phục dựng và vận hành bởi một tổ chức phi lợi nhuận với sứ mệnh bảo tồn lịch sử hàng không quân sự và tri ân những người đã phục vụ.
